SilkwormBase: Silkworm Genetic Resource Database

SilkwormBase is an integrated silkworm genetic resource database comprising information such as list of strains, their images at different stages (egg, larva, pupa and adult), larval period, feeding capacity of artificial diets, list of genes and linkage maps etc. It has been developed by resource centre (Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyushu University) and information centre (National Institute for Genetics) as a part of National BioResource Project (NBRP). Currently it has 456 phenotypically classified strains and 419 genes and can be searched through various options like Strain Search, Gene Search and References Search. Also there is a provision to order the eggs or other developmental stages (larva, pupa and adult) of various silkworm strains online through `Distribution request´ option.

SilkwormBase is interlinked with a website developed as a part of NBRP project for collection, maintenance and preservation of wild genetic resources (last updated: 05/12/2014). Silkworm strains namely Antheraea yamamai Guérin-Méneville, Antheraea pernyi Guérin- Méneville, Samia cynthia pryeri Butler, Samia cynthia ricini Donovan, Rhodinia fugax Butler and Actias aliena aliena Butler) have been included in this website. More than 20 collected wild silk moths and mutants are bred and ~60 mutants/wild moths are cryopreserved every year.
