SilkBase: Bombyx EST Database

SilkBase is the first B. mori silkworm EST database developed which contain EST sequences of five lepidopteran insects (Bombyx mori, Bombyx mandarina, Triloca varians, Ernolatia moore and Samia cynthia ricini) which are derived from RNA sequencing, cDNA, fosmid libraries etc. (Mita et al., 2003). It has in-built options like Search (clone name), BLAST and provides information on cDNA library such as gene ontology, orthologs, etc. This information will be helpful in detection of candidate lepidopteran specific genes thus enabling better understanding of molecular biology of silkworms as well as other lepidopteran insects.
